Ingenico Turkey develops first worldwide speaking POS terminals

February 7, 2011 – Ingenico, the leading worldwide provider of payment solutions,  recently announced the development of speaking payment terminals, designed by its Turkish R&D team, which direct the card owner though vocal messaging. A special sound device has been integrated into the iCT series terminals. Visually impaired card owners can hear the amount during the payment process which prevents potential mistakes being made by the cashier. The speaking POS also directs the user regarding correct or wrong PIN entry.

Speaking POS developed according to directions from the Six Dots Foundation for the Blind for the needs and expectations of the visually impaired, are progressively being deployed in the stores within the scope of Yapi Kredi’s Banking for the Disabled Program. The project, a world first, is planned to be expanded across Turkey.

Ingenico Turkey and Middle East Director Alpay Sidal stated: „Visually impaired card holders can experience many difficulties during payment processes. They can encounter attemps at swindling, especially during cash payments. With the Speaking POS project in cooperation with Yapi Kredi, visually impaired people can have control over every detail during the payment with the verbal menus and can safely make their payments. The pilot studies of the project have been successfully completed. We are now considering further international expansion of this project.”

Yapi Kredi Card Payment Systems Marketing Group Director Serkan Ülgen added: „At Yapi Kredi, we have always been the standard-setter in the Turkish banking sector with our innovative products and services. We believe that the visually impaired will enjoy this convenience for their credit card processes with the Speaking POS, a world first. We are working on rolling out the Speaking POS, which are currently operating in specific stores in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, throughout Turkey.”
