Amazon.pl will be launched very soon

29 ianuarie 2021

From today, entrepreneurs planning to sell via Amazon in Poland and globally can register their accounts in Polish at https://sell.amazon.pl in preparation for the launch of the website.

Amazon announces the start of work on the launch of Amazon.pl in Poland. „The website will provide Polish customers with a new dimension of shopping, and will enable local businesses to reach a larger number of customers both in Poland and around the world,” the company said.

Over 50% of the goods sold on Amazon come from third-party partners. The upcoming premiere of Amazon.pl will therefore enable Polish entrepreneurs to reach over 300 million Amazon customers around the world, in over 200 countries and territories. Currently, it sells 1.7 million small and medium-sized businesses globally through Amazon, of which over 200,000 entrepreneurs exceeded $ 100,000 in sales value in 2019. Amazon invests billions of dollars annually in the infrastructure, tools, and services that enable SMBs to successfully sell their products online.

“ Amazon has been supporting Polish customers for many years and helping to sell products of Polish entrepreneurs in our European stores. The next step is to introduce a full retail offer for consumers in Poland and it is now time to take that step,” said Alex Ootes, EU Vice President for Development, Amazon .

We are happy to be able to strengthen the position of Polish companies through Amazon by investing in tools and services that will help them grow. We are convinced that by focusing on what, in our opinion, customers value the most – low prices, a wide selection of goods and their fast delivery – we will gain the trust of customers in Poland over time. „

Shares in the east European nation’s e-commerce leader and Warsaw’s biggest listed stock, Allegro.eu SA, slumped the most in a month after the U.S. giant announced on Wednesday that sellers can register for its new Polish website that will go live soon, according to Bloomberg .

Amazon has 10 logistics centers in Poland that help process European deliveries, but until now hasn’t been focused on the country’s online market. Its move poses a threat for Allegro, which has ridden a boom in online sales amid repeated shop closures during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Polish platform, which has seen its market capitalization almost double since its Warsaw debut in October, controls more than 36% of the market thanks to its strong consumer base and fast deliveries.

More Rivals

Amazon’s move comes only a week after Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s announced plans to invest in parcel lockers in Poland to speed up delivery from Chinese merchants via its AliExpress platform.

Amazon’s announcement coincides with a market debut of InPost SA, which runs a network of automated parcel lockers in Poland and is working closely with Allegro. The stock soared in Amsterdam trading after its owners raised 2.8 billion euros ($3.4 billion) in Europe’s biggest initial public offering since 2018.

InPost CEO Rafal Brzoska told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday that the nation’s retail market could split evenly between a traditional brick-and-mortar model and online shopping in the next five to seven years.

###

Amazon has been operating in Poland since 2014. The American Chamber of Commerce announced in 2020 that Amazon is the country’s largest U.S. employer and the third largest U.S. investor.

Amazon has created over 18,000 permanent jobs in nine modern logistics centers: in Sady (near Poznań), Sosnowiec, Kołbaskowo (near Szczecin), two facilities in Bielany Wrocławskie, Pawlikowice (near Łódź), Łódź, Okmiany (near Bolesławiec) and Gliwice and at the Amazon Web Services office and at the Amazon Technology Development Center in Gdańsk, which provide innovative solutions supporting Amazon products and services around the world, including Alexa voice solutions.

In 2021, the 10th center in Świebodzin will be launched, where over 1,000 new jobs will be created.
