Important update about the 2025 EPC payment scheme rulebooks

8 octombrie 2025

The European Payments Council (EPC) has released version 1.1 of all five 2025 EPC payment scheme rulebooks, which took effect on 5 October 2025. Alongside these updates, the EPC has also published updated Implementation Guidelines (IGs) and other related supporting documents.

In version 1.1 of the five 2025 rulebooks, the date from which the use of the unstructured address format is no longer permitted has been revised to 15 November 2026 (in version 1.0, this date had been set at 22 November 2026). This amended date is aligned with the November 2026 Swift Standards MX Release date scheduled for the second full weekend of November 2026.

Versions 1.1 of the five 2025 rulebooks do not impact any other business or operational rules compared to versions 1.0 of the 2025 rulebooks.

More information regarding the main changes introduced in the version 1.1. of the five 2025 EPC payment scheme rulebooks:

Furthermore, the EPC also published version 2.1 of the EPC guidance document – Provision of Addresses under the EPC Payment Schemes. This document provides detailed guidance about the provision of the address of the payer and of the payee, in a structured, hybrid, or unstructured format under all five 2025 EPC payment scheme rulebooks.

The EPC has also issued updated IGs to accompany the versions 1.1 of the 2025 EPC payment scheme rulebooks:

Please note that the updated IGs only include a banner on the first page to indicate that i) as of 15 November 2026, the unstructured address format can no longer be provided in EPC payment messages and ii) every reference to 22 November 2026 is no longer valid and has to be read as 15 November 2026. As a result, the version number of the IGs remains unchanged.

At the same time, the EPC has published updated versions of the documents below:
