Global Payments is one of the first providers to offer this service in Central Europe.
Global Payments s.r.o., a joint venture between Global Payments(NYSE: GPN) and Erste Bank, announced today that it now enables merchants in Romania, Austria and the Czech Republic, to seamlessly and securely accept in-person contactless payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone through its GP tom app.
Tap to Pay on iPhone allows merchants of all sizes to accept all forms of contactless payments, including contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, using only an iPhone and the GP tom iOS app — no additional hardware or payment terminal needed.
With Tap to Pay on iPhone at checkout, the merchant will simply prompt the customer to hold their contactless payment near the merchant’s iPhone, and the payment will be securely completed using NFC technology. Tap to Pay on iPhone also supports PIN entry, which includes accessibility options.
Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone technology uses the built-in features of iPhone to keep the business and customer data private and secure. Apple doesn’t store card numbers or transaction information on the device or Apple servers when a payment is processed.
Using Tap to Pay on iPhone, Global Payments empowers merchants to run and grow their businesses more effectively and efficiently. Merchants now have the flexibility to choose what payment method they want to offer to their clients, with Tap to Pay on Phone giving them the ability to accept contactless payments anywhere in-store or on-the-go. Tap to Pay on iPhone is especially helpful for taxi drivers, smaller fast food restaurants, tradesmen, and other mobile merchants and businesses.
“We are delighted to be one of the first payment technology providers in Central Europe to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone,” said Tomáš Furinda – CEO of Global Payments s.r.o., the joint venture between Global Payments and Erste Bank. “Tap to Pay on iPhone adds an important new feature to the GP tom app, which helps companies drive more business and operate their business more efficiently while enabling a frictionless experience for customers.”

“This new feature, available through the GP tom app, aligns with BCR‘s strategy to driving digital innovation in financial services and supporting our clients with flexible, and secure payment technologies. For the microenterprises using George for your business, the GP tom solution can be conveniently accessed through George Store, offering an integrated experience tailored to modern business needs.”
Tap to Pay on iPhone enables Global Payments customers to use a contactless payment acceptance solution that is easy to set up and use. Through the GP tom app, merchants can unlock contactless payment acceptance on any iPhone XS or later that is running the latest version of iOS.
