Octomber 11, 2012 – Perceptions of payments in 2025 shows that 42% of Brits think that they won’t need a purse or wallet, 51% of people think we’ll be paying by fingerprint scan, 35% by iris scan while 32% anticipate paying by voice command. Despite all the talk of innovative payment methods, it was revealed that two in three people believe they will still be using cash in 2025.
The survey from the Payments Council found that seven out of 10 Britons expect to be making mobile payments 13 years from now.
Just over four in 10 respondents even said they will be able to do away with their wallet by 2025 thanks to technological advances.
Around half of the 4,000 adults polled said they expect to be able to make payments by scanning their thumbprints by 2025.
According to „Pay Your Way 2025: Future Payments” study, digital jewellery will make large advances in the 5-10 year period, and some will be designed as means to hold or transfer cash or authenticate transfers. Pieces of jewellery could be worn so as to make transactions very simple, while verifying presence, and even combining with electronic data transfer during a handshake.
