World’s first payment chip that can be implanted under skin launched by Polish-British startup

14 iunie 2021

Walletmor claims to have created the world’s first microchip implant that can be inserted under the skin and used to make contactless payments at any card terminal in the world. Walletmor’s device consists of a microprocessor for storing encrypted payment data as well as a proximity antenna to connect to nearby terminals. Both are sealed in a capsule made from biocompatible materials.

Walletmor has lunched the ultimate contactless wearable, a biopolymer payment device that can be implanted just under the surface of the skin, according to Finextra. Available for €199, the implant is the size of a small safety pin and about half a millimeter thick, consisting of an integrated circuit and a metal sheath acting as an antenna.

Forget about the cash, card or even smartphone. All you need is your hand. Walletmor implant are biosafe, secure, ultimately convenient and they are globally acceptable,” says Wojciech Paprota, WalletMor Founder & CEO.

The biopolymer was created by scientists from laboratories of VivoKey Technologies Inc. from Seattle, and comes with current biocompatibility certificates confirming compliance with the ISO 10993 standard.

Until now, no one has produced a payment implant that is safe and accepted all over the world,” says Wojciech Paprota, creator of Walletmor. „In order to use the implant, you only need to set up an account on the European iCard platform and transfer some money into your account.”

He says that almost 200 people across the UK, Germany, Poland and Scandinavian countries are already making payments using the implant every day.

I believe that one day implants will be as popular as payment cards,” Wojciech Paprota, told Notes from Poland. He argued that the speed of global take-up of other technologies that are “safe, convenient and aggregate more data” is encouraging.

Our payment implant cannot be forgotten or lost,” Paprota told Lublin.eu. “This means that, unlike a standard payment card, it cannot end up in the wrong hands. It will not fall out of our wallet, and no one will take it from there. The implant cannot be scanned, photographed or hacked.”

Implantation is painless and takes only 15 minutes, says Paprota. Currently, there are over 50 recommended Walletmor professional implant installers in the European Union, including traditional hospitals, clinics and aesthetic medicine laboratories.
