Mastercard and Danske Bank have completed a payment where an AI agent made both the purchase and payment on behalf of a consumer. The transaction demonstrates how Mastercard Agent Pay can make AI-powered purchases secure and verifiable, while keeping the consumer in control.
For the first time in Denmark, an AI agent has completed a purchase and payment on behalf of a consumer. “The consumer asked the AI agent to book a coffee tasting via Mastercard’s experience platform, Priceless.com, after which the agent completed both the booking and payment with a Mastercard from Danske Bank.” – according to the press release.
The transaction was completed using Mastercard Agent Pay and demonstrates how AI agents can make purchases on behalf of consumers, while ensuring that the payment is made with the consumer’s consent and under a secure and verifiable framework. PayOS handled the technical execution of the transaction from start to finish.

How Mastercard Agent Pay Works
Mastercard Agent Pay provides the necessary security measures for AI-initiated purchases. Consumer consent is explicitly obtained and the purchase is securely confirmed via Mastercard Payment Passkeys. This ensures that transactions are transparent, authenticated and under the consumer’s control.
