How to attract new customers? A Dubai digital-only bank offers a private island as a prize in an unprecedented promotion campaign.

Liv, the digital-only lifestyle bank by Emirates NBD, has announced that more than 44,000 new accounts have been opened since it launched a competition for customers to win a private island.

The island is approximately the size of five football fields and surrounded by an array of coves and natural beaches. Another fun fact is that gold reserves were discovered in and around the island around 100 years ago.


Only four weeks remain for Liv. customers to boost their chances of winning their very own private island in the lifestyle digital-only bank’s ongoing promotion. „The competition is already heating up with more than 44,000 new accounts opened since mid-April, when the island promotion was first announced.”, according to the press release.

Under the campaign, customers who use their Liv. app and debit card to carry out transactions, sign up for new products or update their personal details will earn ‘Livion’ loyalty points. Five customers with the highest Livion points each month from April to August, along with 15 randomly chosen lucky customers, will be selected to determine the finalists for the promotion.

The 20 finalists will participate in a final competition to determine the ultimate winner who will be rewarded with a private island, in addition to an AED 100,000 cash prize.

Since the campaign kicked off, Liv. has reported a growth in account activity as customers try to win additional Livions. The average balance per customer has increased as well as the number of goal accounts created on a daily basis, with the campaign helping to raise customer awareness on their financial activities.

Jayash Patel, Head of Liv. said: “We’re thrilled to see how Liv.’s island promotion has been a huge success so far with customers, generating lots of buzz and excitement on social media. Our customers are actively using the Liv. app to accrue Livions, with debit card transactions and first logins of the day emerging as the most popular means of increasing points so far.”

In addition to the chance to win an island, Liv. customers can also use their Livion points to win instant gifts such as shopping and dining vouchers, passes to premium events and entertainment zones, beauty & fitness vouchers, and cash prizes via the app’s weekly Liv. wheel spins.

“An interesting trend we’ve noticed is that despite the large number of prizes given away, many Liv. customers are choosing to accumulate Livions to boost their chances of winning the grand island prize, rather than trading them for instant rewards.  I’d like to encourage all new and existing Liv. customers to make the most of this valuable opportunity to own their very own private island retreat in this unique campaign,” Patel added.

Customers can increase their chances of entering the draw to choose the finalists by accruing Livion points for various daily transactions and activities on the Liv. app, making customer referrals as well as maintaining higher average deposit balances. Users need a minimum of 100 Livion points to qualify for the island finalists’ draw with every 100 Livion points getting an additional entry.

The location of the island is being kept under wraps but Liv said it is approximately the size of five football fields and is connected to nearby fishing villages, surrounded by an array of coves and natural beaches.

Existing and new customers are being invited to participate in the campaign that will run until the end of August.
