First transaction on the Romanian market for PKO Bank Polski’s foreign corporate branch – a syndicated financing agreement of approx. EUR 350 million

The Romanian branch of PKO Bank Polski has signed a syndicated financing agreement with Distributie Energie Oltenia, one of the four largest power distribution system operators in Romania. „This is the first transaction of the new foreign branch, which started operating on 1 January this year.” – according to the press release.

The transaction aims to refinance existing debt and also provide RON 1.76 billion (approx. EUR 350 million) of financing for additional investments over the next 7 years. Key areas of investment include expanding and strengthening the distribution network to facilitate renewables connections for prosumers, upgrading and automating the network to reduce the frequency and duration of power outages, and digitalisation to enable better management of electricity distribution.

In addition to PKO Bank Polski, the lending consortium includes eight local and international financial institutions.

The launch of operations in Romania is part of PKO Bank Polski’s Strategy for 2025-2027 in terms of foreign expansion. PKO Bank Polski S.A. Varsovia, Sucursala Bucuresti wants to be the first choice bank for Polish companies operating on the Romanian market and a gateway for Romanian companies entering the Polish market. The branch in the Romanian capital is the fourth foreign corporate branch of PKO Bank Polski, after Frankfurt am Main, Prague and Bratislava.
