Klarna, the everyday finance network, today marks four years since its official launch in Greece. „What began in September 2022 as the introduction of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) has grown into a broader shopping and payments experience that has made Klarna a familiar name for Greek consumers and merchants alike.” – according to the press release.
Four years in figures
Since entering the Greek market, Klarna has achieved significant milestones:
. 700,000 consumers in Greece have used Klarna in the past 12 months
. 13,000 merchant partners, spanning categories from fashion, sport and electronics, where Klarna first made its mark in Greece, to travel, beauty, marketplaces, and beyond
. 66 of the top 100 merchants in Greece now active with Klarna
„Over the past four years, we’ve seen Greek consumers and merchants embrace a new way of thinking about payments, one that’s flexible, transparent, and built around their needs,” says Maria Iliadou, Country Manager Greece at Klarna.
From a hero product to an everyday shopping companion
Klarna entered Greece with a clear proposition: give consumers the freedom to split purchases into three interest-free installments, with no hidden fees, or to pay up to 30 days later. „This resonated deeply in Greece, where consumers have long been wary of the interest rates and hidden costs associated with credit cards. Klarna offered a third way: the flexibility of credit, without the fees and fine print.” – the company said.
Four years on, that proposition has grown into a full shopping companion. Through the Klarna app, Greek consumers can browse and discover brands, track deliveries, find deals, and manage every purchase and payment in one place.
„Klarna’s growth in Greece has been built hand-in-hand with its merchant partners. Today, some of Greece’s best-known brands across fashion, beauty, electronics, sport and travel offer Klarna at checkout, including Skroutz, Public, Airbnb and Zara. These partnerships reflect a shared belief that giving consumers more payment choice directly drives conversion and customer satisfaction.” – the company explained.
„Four years in, Greece is no longer a new market for us, it’s a home market. We’ve built deep relationships with retailers across every sector, and we’re seeing Greek consumers use Klarna not just as a payment tool, but as part of how they discover and shop,” adds Maria Iliadou.
Globally, Klarna now serves over 120 million active consumers and over one million merchant partners, generating 3.8 million transactions per day and $142 billion in gross merchandise volume in the 12 months to June 2026. In Greece, the company sees ample room to deepen its presence, particularly as the BNPL market continues to grow year on year and Greek consumers increasingly look for more transparent, flexible ways to pay.
