The frontier of AI is shifting from models that answer to agents that act—and agents are only as capable as the systems they can reach. Anthropic announces that is acquiring Stainless, a leader in SDKs (Software Development Kit) and MCP (Model Context Protocol) server tooling, to extend that reach even further.

Model Context Protocol is an open protocol introduced by Anthropic to standardize how AI models and agents connect to external tools, APIs, files, databases, and services. Anthropic describes it as the “USB-C for AI applications.
MCP does not create agent intelligence. It is the connectivity layer. The reasoning still comes from the model (GPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.); MCP just gives the model standardized access to the outside world.
Although Anthropic created MCP, it has been adopted broadly and is becoming a cross-vendor ecosystem rather than a Claude-only feature

For AI platforms, SDKs are especially useful because developers frequently work across multiple languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, Go, or C#. Companies like Anthropic and OpenAI provide SDKs so developers can integrate models without building all the plumbing themselves.
Stainless became known for generating and maintaining SDKs automatically from API specifications. Instead of engineers manually writing and updating SDKs for every language, Stainless can generate consistent SDKs from a single API definition.
