„We are thrilled to announce the release of EWC RFC Version 2.2, a critical milestone in the EU Digital Wallet Consortium (EWC) Large-Scale Pilot (EWC LSP). This release marks a significant step in enabling payments within the EU Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem.” – according to a press release.
What’s New in Version 2.2?
The release focuses on two key Request for Comments (RFCs) designed to streamline payment processes and ensure secure, seamless payments:
1️⃣ RFC-007: Payment Wallet Attestation v1.1
Enhancements to the attestation protocols that support wallet-banking integration, particularly in Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), ensure trust between wallets and payment service providers.
2️⃣ RFC-008: Payment Data Confirmation v1.0
A brand-new specification providing a standardised approach for wallets to confirm payment data with issuers and relying parties, fostering reliability and user confidence during payment transactions.
Why Payments RFCs Matter
These RFCs ensure technical compliance, interoperability, and security across diverse implementations by addressing critical aspects like wallet attestation and payment data confirmation. They pave the way for digital wallets to deliver trusted payment experiences aligned with EU Digital Identity standards.
Next Steps
All EWC partners – Wallet Providers, Payment Service Providers, Issuers, and Verifiers – are encouraged to implement these payment-specific RFCs to prepare for the upcoming Interoperability Test Bed (ITB) evaluations.
