Visa participates in eIDAS 2.0 pilots

26 ianuarie 2023

Visa and its consortium partners will explore the use of the EUDI Wallet to authenticate card and bank account transactions, create and hold payment credentials, issue cards and open bank accounts.

Visa Europe as part of the EUDI Wallet Consortium (EWC) has been selected by the European Commission to participate in the EU Digital Identity Large Scale Pilots to ensure interoperability and adoption of the EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet. The EUDI Wallet is part of the proposed eIDAS 2.0 regulation, which will provide all European citizens a trusted digital identity provided by their government and accepted in all EU Member States, Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein (EEA).

EWC has over 60 participants from both private and public sector representing almost every country in Europe, as well as Ukraine. The pilot will focus on how citizens and business can use their EUDI Wallet to identify themselves and make payment as they travel across the continent, creating realistic payment scenarios and delivering a better understanding of barriers to and enablers of scaling the EUDI Wallet. The pilot will leverage existing payment infrastructure as well as developing new solutions.

Visa leads the payment work stream, which also includes other important payment service providers and banks around Europe to make sure that the pilot will cover realistic scenarios and different infrastructure deployments. Visa and its consortium partners will explore the use of the EUDI Wallet to authenticate card and bank account transactions, create and hold payment credentials, issue cards and open bank accounts.says Marie Austenaa, Head of Digital Identity Visa Europe.
