USA: $2 out of every $3 spent using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express contactless cards were made through Apple Pay

Apple has added more than a dozen new banks to the list of institutions supporting Apple Pay, bringing the total number of participating banks to just over 60, 9to5mac.com reported. Four of the ten largest credit unions in the country have been added aș partners.

Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned last week, in his company’s recent quarterly conference call with investors and analysts, that the company has signed up around 750 banks and credit union to roll out Apple Pay support. During the earnings call Cook also revealed that $2 out of every $3 spent using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express contactless cards were made through Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is currently only available in the US, but the company has hinted at plans to roll out the service internationally in 2015. Apple is rumoured to be preparing to launch Apple Pay in Canada next month, and possible the UK in the first half of the year. The Apple Watch is also on track for launch in April.

Samsung is rumoured to be working on its own mobile payments protocol for the Galaxy S6 according to  www.mobilepaymentsinsider.com
