Sweden’s central bank The Riksbank is to begin testing its e-krona central bank digital currency (CBDC) with external partners to assess how a digital krona would operate within a real world banking and payments infrastructure.
In the next phase of the e-krona pilot, the Riksbank will, together with Handelsbanken and TietoEVRY, test the technical solution for the e-krona. „The e-crown pilot thus goes from having only simulated participants to collaborating with external participants in the test environment,” according to the press release.
„Involving external actors as participants in the e-krona pilot’s test environment makes it possible for the Riksbank to evaluate the integration between the participants’ existing systems and the technical platform for the e-krona pilot,” the Swedish central bank says.
„The Riksbank will, for example, test an integration of the payment flows developed during the pilot’s first year with the participants’ internal systems.”
