The new way to pay: contactless fingernails

18 iulie 2016

Forget Apple Pay, the cool new way to get around on London’s Underground is to tap your contactless fingernails. Student Lucie Davis has come up with an ingenious way of swiping in and out of the London tube without the need to carry an oyster card or faff about with your contactless debit/credit card. And it’s all at your fingertips. Literally.

She has created a set of acrylic nails that actually swipe you in and out of the barriers, thanks to an inbuilt microchip. Lucie created the nails as part of her BA in jewellery design at UAL’s Central Saint Martins, and they featured in her final show.

The idea for the nails came about after Lucie and the rest of her pals on the course were given a project where they were encouraged to find wonder in even the most routine activities. Lucie immediately thought of her daily commute.

„I took the RFID chip from an Oyster card and embedded it within a full set of acrylic nails to give commuters the ability to pay for their journeys with a single tap/touch,” she told WAH Nails. „You can still top them up with money too. Now you’ll never have to worry about misplacing your card again!”
