For years we’ve watched Asia dominate the SuperApp game: Weixin/WeChat. Grab. GoTo Group. Ant Group. All-in-one ecosystems where people message, pay, shop, and book flights: inside a single app.
And we kept repeating the same line: “It can’t happen in the West.” Regulation, privacy, platform control. Too fragmented. Too impossible. Until now.
ChatGPT just changed the game (for the years to come).
Couple weeks ago, OpenAI announced that they have started to integrated apps inside ChatGPT, and it’s not a gimmick. You can „talk” directly to Figma, Canva, Spotify, Etsy, Booking.com, and Zillow without ever downloading anything.
“Turn this outline into a Canva presentation.”
“Find me a hotel in Paris for next week.”
“Play me something new on Spotify.”
“Show me homes under $500k in NYC” (good luck 🤣)
No App Store. No switching screens. And yes, with all payments embedded thanks to their integration with Stripe. They have developed the new OS for the new future.
This isn’t just another update. It’s the moment conversation becomes the new interface, and ChatGPT becomes the new platform layer.
SuperApps have finally landed in the West. But not as the format everyone was thinking. But as conversations.
