SIBS launches the first inclusive card for visually impaired people certified by ACAPO

12 ianuarie 2023

After two years of joint work with ACAPO – Associação dos Cegos e Psambliopes de Portugal, SIBS launched on January 4th, World Braille Day, the first inclusive card for visually impaired people.

„This SIBS solution includes bank and non-bank cards with identification and characters in Braille, and will allow blind and low vision users to distinguish the various types of card by type of use.” – according to the press release.

„It is a proprietary technology and solution developed by SIBS, which are now available to all its customers and partners, in Portugal and abroad, who wish to include this solution in their offer.” – the company explains.

„The new SIBS solution with Braille identification and characters allows blind and low vision users not only to distinguish the issuing entity of the various cards, but also the type of use. This new technology is thus combined with the cutter launched in 2018, a half-moon-shaped cut made on the card so that visually impaired people can identify the correct side for use.” ACAPO explains.

For Rodrigo Santos, President of the National Board of ACAPO, “this project is an important step not only for people who are blind or have low vision, (…) but also to raise awareness in the community about the importance of equal and accessible access to all” .

This new SIBS technology is now available to all customers and partners, for bank and non-bank cards. For Gonçalo Campos Alves, Director General of SIBS Cartão, SIBS assumes itself once again as an agent of change “ensuring the use of cards autonomously, privately and securely, in payment terminals and ATMs, by a blind person”.

Through this solution, Rodrigo Santos believes that “a greater number of entities will be able to adopt inclusive practices in their daily lives, both for the information they produce and for the relationship with their customers”.
