SIA in the first half of 2018: +26% online purchases with cards, +10% in traditional stores.
In the first half of 2018 there were 1.6 billion payments made using debit, credit and prepaid cards issued in Italy and managed by SIA, compared to the 1.4 billion in the same period last year (+13.3%); of these 301 million related to online purchases, equal to more than 18% of the total, up around 25.9% over 2017 when they were 239 million.
In traditional stores, payments with cards rose by 10.8% thus reaching this year 1.3 billion compared to 1.2 billion in 2017.
SIA manages around half of all payments made with debit, credit and prepaid cards in Italy, according to the press release.
