PayPal launches a payment app for smartwath – „instead of pulling out a wallet, you pay right from your wrist”

20 noiembrie 2014

PayPal has built an app for the Pebble smartwatch that lets users check in and pay at retailers on the go. The app lets Pebble wearers find stores and restaurants, check in, order what they want and then pay before they even arrive. The app also sends out payment notifications.

„With the PayPal app, Pebblers are able to check-in to pay or pay with payment code at numerous retailers, restaurants and other local businesses accepting PayPal. You can also receive payment notifications while on-the-go through our app – without taking out your phone.”, according to PayPal’s blog.

„At PayPal, we’re working to make shopping easy and seamless so that you are one step closer to walking into a store and being able to place your order and pay without ever reaching into your pocket.”, says Joel Yarbrough, Senior Director of Partnerships and Global Solutions, PayPal.

With the addition of the PayPal app for Pebble, the PayPal app is now available across all available wearable platforms, including the latest Android Wear devices as well as Samsung’s Gear 2, Gear S and Gear Fit.

Joel Yarbrough added: „So no matter which is your favorite smartwatch, we’re making it really easy for you to pay at local stores right from your smart watches. Instead of pulling out a wallet, you pay right from your wrist.”

Pebble is the scrappy upstart that began life as a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign and is now taking on giants such as Samsung, Sony and, soon, Apple in the smartwatch field, according to finextra.com. The Apple Watch will offer payments through a double-click of a button and a flip of the wrist near contactless readers, although users will have to enter a code each time they strap it on in order to activate the functionality.
