New SEPA Request-to-Pay Rulebook

2 decembrie 2024

The European Payments Council (EPC) has published version 4.0 of the SEPA Request-to-Pay (SRTP) scheme rulebook, which covers the set of operating rules and technical elements (including messages) that allow a Payee to request the initiation of a payment from a Payer in a wide range of physical or online use cases.

The new rulebook focuses on the need to simplify and clarify the SRTP scheme, while keeping it stable. It includes complementary reasons codes for clarity purposes, the definition of a number of options, the mandatory registration in the EPC Directory Service (EDS), the addition of sealing requirements for security purposes in the Application Programming Interface (API) specifications, and a simplification of the homologation process.

This new version introducing several enhancements aimed at improving clarity, security, and ease of use is set to go into effect on 5 October 2025.

The EPC has also published the completed change proposal submission document of the 2024 public consultation , including the decision of the Board on each change proposal.
