Patience among some backers of Berlin-based online bank N26 is wearing thin, with founders and co-chief executives Valentin Stalf and Maximilian Tayenthal reportedly at risk of being pushed aside.
According to several people familiar with the matter, the supervisory board, key investors, and the founders are in discussions over a potential leadership shake-up. The talks follow a report in Manager Magazin.
Multiple investors are said to be pressing for a change at the top. An N26 spokesperson declined to comment on specifics, but insisted: “It is wrong to claim that the founders are facing removal under investor pressure.”
Industry insiders say criticism of Stalf and Tayenthal has intensified in recent weeks, fueled in part by another extensive list of shortcomings flagged by Germany’s financial regulator, BaFin.
