Moneycorp exits from the Romanian market

4 iulie 2025

Moneycorp Group (“Moneycorp”), a global payments and foreign exchange business, announced that it will no longer be providing regulated activity from its branch in Romania – Moneycorp Technologies Limited Dublin – Sucursala Bucuresti („Moneycorp Romanian Branch”) – as part of a strategic alignment of its global operations. The exit from the Romanian market aligns with Moneycorp’s strategy to focus on core markets.

Moneycorp is committed to ensuring an orderly cessation of the regulated activity of the Moneycorp Romanian Branch process and will provide support to its Romanian clients throughout the process.

Moneycorp started its operations on the Romanian market in September 2016. At that time, Romania represented a key market for the Moneycorp Group within its international expansion strategy.

_____________

Moneycorp was first established in 1979 as a bureau de change business in central London. 45 years later, the company has significantly transformed from a largely domestic, consumer focused analogue provider of foreign exchange, to an international, digitally-enabled, B2B2X currency solutions and payments provider and a key player in the global wholesale currency market.

With offices in 11 countries and a team of over 600 colleagues, the company has an extensive global network. In 2014, the retail business accounted for 57% of the Group’s revenue, with 98% derived from domestic revenue streams. Today, Moneycorp’s revenue is predominantly derived from corporates and financial institutions, with 91% of gross revenue now from B2B.
