The launch of EPI’s mobile-first wallet, Wero, marks a major milestone in advancing instant account-to-account payments across Europe. Initially focused on person-to-person (P2P) transactions, Wero enables users to transfer money seamlessly in just 10 seconds using a phone number, QR code, or email – no IBAN required.
Oana Ifrim from The Paypers had an exclusive conversation with Martina Weimert, CEO of EPI Company, about Wero’s vision, features, updates, and the promising roadmap ahead.
Here is what Martina Weimert said about the results so far:
„The market launch went very well for France and Belgim where we had the opportunity to launch with the migration of existing solutions. This is almost finished in France where will be terminated by end of March. In Belgium it will take a little bit longer. But the exciting fact is that we have already more active customers and doing transactions than before in the national solutions. It’s not just migrating but we see the new potential realising and that’s great. We also see that we get a lot of requests from other markets. That’s a first success.„
„We are looking forward in integrating more institutions, more banks. For example, we have four more banks signed up in France, where we already had the six big banks. In Belgium we have four smaller banks joining this year and we have quite a lot of acceptance PSPs who are already joined in the perspective of the ecommerce launch we are working for this year.
We have to recognise that situation in Germany is a little bit more difficult because there was no national solution to be migrated and it’s like green field approach there. So it’s slower, it’s also that we don’t have the same market reach as we have in France and Belgium.
Overall we are very happy. We have now 29.5 million customers on the platform. So, to summarize it, a very good overall perspective with some difficulties in the German market.„
