Google Pay is now available in France, with initial support from 6 banks and card companies

11 decembrie 2018

Google Pay, Google’s competitor to mobile payment services with strikingly similar names such as Samsung Pay and Apple Pay, is continuing its global expansion. Three years after its launch in the United States, Google Pay – formerly Android Pay – finally finally comes to France.

French users will enjoy Google Pay and therefore make purchases without having to take out their credit card, but just by affixing their smartphone on the payment terminal. Google boasts the extreme simplicity of this method of payment since it is enough to unlock the phone for transactions of less than 30 euros, without launching the application or having to enter password .

„Unlike other recent launches in countries like Chile and the United Arab Emirates, which were discovered by their inclusion on the official list of countries where Google Pay has launched, news of the service’s debut in France comes via French outlet FrAndroid.”, according to 9to5google.com.

According to their report, Google Pay will launch today (December 11th), with support from six banks and credit card companies, with a seventh, Up, reportedly coming soon. At present, only Mastercard cards are compatible for Boon and Revolut. Visa should be available “very soon”.

Beyond working anywhere contactless payments are accepted, Google has also partnered with a variety of French online retailers to support Google Pay, including Deliveroo, Flixbus, Asos, and Ryanair.

French users should be able to download Google Pay from the Play Store starting today. More details are available from Google Support on which cards from each bank and credit card provider are Google Pay compatible.
