Google announces a new service in India that will enable residents to pay their utility bills digitally

20 februarie 2018

Continuing to add newer features to its digital payments app Tez, Google India said Monday (Feb. 19) that Indian residents can now pay their water, electricity, DTH, insurance and mobile bills with Tez, the mobile payment app. Customers who use the digital payment platform won’t face any transaction charges.

For recurring bill payments, Tez will send users a timely notification when their bill arrives, and users will be able to check whether they have paid a bill by simply tapping the biller’s name on their Tez home screen. Users will also be able to view all past payments grouped by bill, as well as manage bills from multiple accounts. Built to support Bharat BillPay system, for most utilities Tez will also let users get an alert when a new bill comes in.

Customers will see different billers depending on their city and region, and users can also search for them by name. Once users have located their biller, they need to enter the number associated with their account to link it to Tez and give it an easy name to remember.

Once users have linked their account, for most utility bills Tez will automatically fetch any available bills. Users need to just tap on New Payment and then Pay your bills. For every new biller you pay this month, you’ll get a scratch card with up to ₹1000.

Tez is built on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and, according to the report, with the new service, the mobile app will enable bill payment for more than 80 private and public utility companies around India.

In the fall of 2017, Google India launched Tez, which connects directly to a user’s bank account and works with the United Payments Interface, which means it will integrate with any bank in the region that supports UPI. In addition to sending money, there’s Tez Shield, an always-active security feature designed to prevent fraud or hacking, as well as Tez Scratch Cards, which offers all Tez users the chance to win up to 1,000 rupees per week, or 100,000 rupees on “lucky Sundays.”
