Sergio Mattarella, the President of the Republic, has signed the decree to appoint Fabio Panetta as Governor of the Bank of Italy for a period of six years, as of 1 November 2023, according to a press release.
The appointment of the Governor is enacted by means of a decree issued by the President of the Republic, acting on a proposal from the President of the Council of Ministers following the adoption of a resolution by the Council of Ministers, and after hearing the opinion of the Bank of Italy’s Board of Directors.
In 2019, Fabio Panetta was Senior Deputy Governor of the Banca d’Italia. Since 2020, he is Member of the Executive Board at the European Central Bank, Chairman of the Euro Retail Payments Board (ERPB), since and Chairman of the Euro Cyber Resilience Board for pan-European Financial Infrastructures (ECRB).
