The Nordic wallet Vipps MobilePay joins the EuroPA-alliance. This collaboration will enable money transfers between Vipps MobilePay users in the Nordics and several European countries. The cooperation started in May 2025, and the intention is to conduct the first test payments within a few months. Users will have this feature available in 2026.
Users of the two apps, Vipps and MobilePay, in Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden, can soon look forward to being able to send money to Spain, Italy, Portugal, Poland and Andorra. Vipps MobilePay joins the EuroPA alliance where several European wallets are working together to connect their users seamlessly across borders.
„The aim is that a Vipps user in Norway and Sweden, or a MobilePay user in Denmark and Finland, will be able to send money to users of the Spanish wallet Bizum or the Polish wallet Blik, just as easily as they are used to at home and vice versa.” – says Rune Garborg – CEO of Vipps MobilePay.
100 million Europeans
In March, Italian Bancomat, Spanish Bizum, and Portuguese MB Way began rolling out the functionality between their three countries, including Andorra. This enabled 45 million users to send money to each other across borders.
Now, Norwegian-Danish Vipps MobilePay is signing a letter of intent to join this alliance with its more than 12 million users across Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.
The Polish wallet Blik is also signing the letter of intent to join. The collaboration has the potential to reach over 100 million users across Europe, and more wallets may join EuroPA in the future.
„It’s a big deal for us that our simplification will soon reach over 100 million people in Europe. With this collaboration, we ensure that Vipps and MobilePay users can use their wallet in more and more countries,” says Rune Garborg.
First tests starting soon
The ambition is to do the first test payments from the Nordics and the other countries within a few months, and within a year Vipps MobilePay users should be able to send money to Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Poland – and receive money from users in these countries as well.
Users across the Nordic countries got the option of sending money to friends and family across borders in the Nordics in 2024.
Interoperability between wallets is coordinated in the EMPSA-organization, where Vipps MobilePay is a member among several other wallets. The EuroPA-project has been made possible by the work done in EMPSA.
