European fintech associations send an open industry letter to Commission on upporting a stronger framework for Financial Data Access in Europe

11 aprilie 2025

Several leading European fintech associations co-signed an open industry letter sent on 31 March 2025 to the European Commission and the European Parliament. The letter outlines the ecosystem’s continued support for the Financial Data Access (FIDA) Regulation and presents a series of targeted adjustments to help ensure its success.

AEFI, AFEPAME, EDFA, EMA, ETPPA, France FinTech, FRIDA, PSD2SIG, and the Swedish FinTech Association, advocate for a regulation that is customer-centric, promotes continuous and secure access to financial data, and creates a level playing field for innovation across Europe.

The joint letter emphasises that with the right adjustments, FIDA can become a cornerstone of Europe’s open finance vision — empowering consumers, encouraging competition, and reinforcing the EU’s leadership in digital financial services.

We are aware that there has been considerable push back by incumbents, against the FIDA Regulation. This comes as no surprise and is a repeat of similar arguments raised by incumbents when PSD2 was proposed to level the playing field and increase competition in the payment services landscape. Under no circumstances, would we see a withdrawal of FIDA being necessary or beneficial for the competitiveness of the EU. EU fintechs/TPPs/FISPs hold the potential for increasing financial literacy in Europe and increasing Europe’s competitiveness. It is time that people take control of their data and be better informed and equipped for their financial future.” – it is mentioned in the letter.
