BBVA has launched a new family of pioneerin cards in Spain, Aqua, which does not have the card number (PAN) or the expiration date printed on it, and the verification code (CVV) is dynamic.
This reinforces security both on its digital and physical versions, since not having this data prevents a possible fraudulent use of them. Every time the customer wants to make a purchase, they must access the ‚app’ (Android and iPhone) and check the card number, CVV and expiration date.
This functionality is based on ‚cloud’ technology and advanced crryptographic algorithms to ensure the inviolability of code generated for the end user. In addition to reinforce the security, BBVA has introduced these new element – dynamic CVV and hidden card number and expiration date -, which raises the level of security, since if the client loses the card no one will be able to use the data of the same to make payments online.
The card, which will be issued in recycled plastic, has a debit, credit and prepaid mode.
„This initiative goes beyond the launch of a card. It is a new experience for our clients. When they access the ‚app’, they will first find those services most used to facilitate their procedures, they will have greater control of their expenses, they will be able to choose the payment method they want and have greater security in their online pruchases, since the number and CVV do not appear on the cards,” explains Gonzalo Rodriquez, Director of Business Development at BBVA in Spain.
Aqua card it is a global project. The bank is already working to bring this mobile experience to other countries.
Currently, BBVA has already deployed this initiative in Mexico and Turkey. Recently, the bank launched the entire unified payments experience on mobile phones in Mexico and throughout the next year, clients in this country will have cards with recycled material without PAN or CVV.
Customers in Turkey already have a card without PAN or CVV and the dynamic CVV will be implemented soon. The goal is to take this same experience to other countries like Peru or Colombia as well.
Aqua is compatible with all mobile payment systems offered by BBVA, in addition to the bank’s own system, Apple Pay (iOS), Samsung Pay or Google Pay (Android).
