Android Pay launches in Poland

21 noiembrie 2016

Android Pay has begun rolling out across Poland, allowing consumers with compatible devices to make payments at more than 400,000 retail locations in the country that accept contactless payments. The service launches with support from Mastercard and Visa along with Alior Bank, Bank Zachodni WBK and T-Mobile Banking Services.

mBank will be supported soon, Google says, “along with more banks in the coming months”.

Supporting retailers include Caffe Nero, Carrefour, Costa Coffee, Delikatesy Centrum, Inglot, KFC, Lidl, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Netto, Rossmann, Spar and Starbucks.

Breeze through

“Android Pay will also let you breeze through checkout when you shop in your favourite mobile apps,” Google’s global head of payment product Pali Bhat writes in a blog post. “Look for the Android Pay purchase button when the feature launches soon in apps like Allegro, Ceneo, Fancy, iTaxi.pl and Uber, with many more to come.

“We’ve teamed up with many leading payment platforms, processors and technology providers such as Braintree and First Data to make it even easier to accept Android Pay in stores and apps.”
The company is also working with Adyen, Global Payments, PayU and WorldPay to bring the mobile payment service to the country.

Global expansion

Android Pay most recently launched in Hong Kong in October 2016. It was unveiled during the Google I/O keynote in May 2015 and was launched across the US in September 2015.

The service made its UK debut in May 2016 after Google’s Spencer Spinnell hinted that a European launch of the mobile payment service was imminent earlier this year at Money20/20 Europe. It launched in Singapore in June and made its Australian debut in July.
