Instant Account-to-Account payments: NETOPIA Payments integrates national RoPay scheme into its checkout

1 octombrie 2026

NETOPIA Payments now has its technological connectivity live (TSP LIVE) and is accelerating implementation of its role as a Payment Service Provider (PSP), offering shoppers an instant payment alternative through a simple QR code scan.

Shortly after announcing its new strategic direction to develop an integrated financial platform for merchants (One-Stop-Shop), NETOPIA Payments is taking another step toward the adoption of instant Account-to-Account (A2A) payments in Romania by integrating the national RoPay scheme into its checkout.

The solution is already live in production, with ING Bank as the integrated partner for the Technical Service Provider (TSP) component, offering shoppers a fast, secure and efficient alternative to traditional digital payments.

At this stage, NETOPIA provides the TSP component and direct technical connectivity to the RoPay system. The company is at an advanced stage of implementation for its Payment Service Provider (PSP) role and is preparing to extend the payment option across its portfolio of more than 25,000 merchants, which collectively process over RON 10 billion annually.

How the RoPay flow works in NETOPIA’s checkout

. Direct selection: The “Pay with RoPay” option is natively displayed on the NETOPIA checkout page, above the card payment options.

. Scan & Pay: The system generates a secure, dynamic and time-limited QR code.

. Instant confirmation: The shopper scans the QR code directly from their mobile banking app and authorizes the transaction biometrically using Face ID or a fingerprint, without having to enter card details.

Strategic and economic value within NETOPIA’s new platform

RoPay gives merchants an alternative payment collection method based on the national banking infrastructure, reducing reliance on international card schemes and helping optimize processing costs.

At the same time, A2A payments are directly connected to the automated reconciliation module within NETOPIA’s financial platform, simplifying merchants’ financial and accounting management.

For shoppers, the Scan & Pay experience streamlines checkout by eliminating the need to enter card details and allowing payments to be authorized directly through their mobile banking app.

“The launch of RoPay is the first concrete proof of execution in our new phase of development as a Merchant Financial Platform. The fact that we already have large-scale projects live in production, such as the TSP integration with ING Bank, demonstrates the immediate applicability of instant A2A payments. For the more than 25,000 merchants in our ecosystem, through which we process over RON 10 billion annually, this is not just a new payment collection method, but a direct way to optimize costs and cash flow,” said Raluca Micu, CEO of NETOPIA Payments.

“By integrating RoPay together with NETOPIA, we are expanding merchants’ access to an instant, simple and secure payment method that can be integrated directly into the checkout experience. For customers, the payment process becomes faster, without the need to enter card details, while for merchants, RoPay provides an efficient alternative for collecting payments and access to the benefits of instant payment infrastructure. We are continuing to expand the use of RoPay together with our partners and bring the solution to as many relevant payment contexts as possible for consumers and businesses,” said Florentina Nistor, Head of Transaction Services, ING Romania.

Next steps

NETOPIA will continue to develop and expand RoPay functionality within its platform, while completing the technical steps required to integrate the Payment Service Provider (PSP) role.

The solution will be made available to merchants gradually, as the implementation and associated testing phases are completed.
