In 2025, the European Payments Council had been made aware about alleged mis-uses of its two SEPA Credit Transfer schemes to process international credit transfers. The allegations were about transactions where either the real payer or payee of the transmitted funds via the SCT scheme concerned, did not hold a payment account with a SEPA Credit Transfer or SEPA Instant Credit Transfer scheme participant.
„Payment Service Providers offering international credit transfer services are strongly encouraged to join the EPC’s One-Leg Out Instant Credit Transfer scheme which is specifically designed for such international credit transfers.” – EPC said.

SCT participants are advised to promptly notify the EPC Secretariat if they detect any one-leg-out transactions under one of the two SCT schemes. The EPC has issued a formal letter addressing the risks related to such non-compliant practices with the two SCT schemes.
