The future of payments in Europe will not be shaped by technology alone – it will be shaped through dialogue, shared priorities, and the ability to act in the name of sovereignty, believe Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, the CEO of BLIK Polish payment Standard.
„That’s why today’s meeting with Austria’s leading commercial banks in Vienna was a meaningful step forward. As European markets look to reclaim control over their payment infrastructure, we presented how BLIK – built on bank-led governance and a proven business model – can deliver real value.” – says the BLIK representative in a post on linkedin.
He added: „The demand for secure, fast, and fully domestic A2A solutions is rising across the continent. And Austria, with its advanced digital banking landscape, is ready for the next chapter. What’s missing is a local, unified solution that strengthens the position of banks, meets user expectations, and supports Europe’s ambition for greater independence.
BLIK fills that gap. As a relevant player on the fintech map of Europe, we bring strong user adoption, interoperability, and measurable profitability: all within a model that respects the foundations of local trust, regulation, and shared success.
Our goal is not just to expand, but to contribute. To help shape a European payment ecosystem that puts sovereignty, efficiency, and collaboration at its core.„

BLIK is a common standard for mobile payments. The option to use BLIK in mobile banking applications is now available to virtually every customer of domestic payment institutions offering a mobile app. The company Polski Standard Płatności (PSP) is responsible for developing the system. PSP continuously enhances BLIK’s functionality to make the system as user-friendly and versatile as possible. The shareholders of PSP are Alior Bank, Millennium Bank, Santander Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO Bank Polski, and Mastercard.
BLIK enables customers to make eCommerce and retail payments, withdraw cash from ATMs and send transfers to other customers using the system. The PSP system, being a Polish payment scheme, means that the user can access the system using an app belonging to any of the participating banks, and can have several apps on their phone that will work with BLIK.
During 2024, BLIK continued its international expansion, strengthening its presence in foreign markets. In September, customers of Tatra Banka in Slovakia gained the ability to pay with BLIK in e-commerce. Expansion is also accelerating in Romania, where BLIK Romania S.A. has obtained authorization from the National Bank of Romania. This milestone paves the way for the launch of BLIK services in the country and will allow Romanian consumers to access convenient and secure mobile payments in the near future.
Over the past decade, BLIK users have completed 7 bn transactions, with their total value approaching one trillion PLN. The year 2024 was another record-breaking period – the number of transactions exceeded 2.4 bn, marking a 37% year-on-year increase, while their total value reached PLN 347.3 bn (83.4 bn EUR, +43% y/y). This means that in 2024 alone, BLIK users carried out more than half of all transactions made in the previous nine years combined.
