The General Assembly of the European Payments Council (EPC), a representative body of European payment service providers, has elected Gijs Boudewijn as its new Chair and Rita Camporeale as its Vice-Chair.
„The Vice-chair’s mandate takes effect immediately and will run until December 2026. The new Chair will assume the role in June 2025 for a two-year term, during which significant changes are anticipated in the payments industry. Gijs Boudewijn will succeed Javier Santamaría, who will continue his role as EPC Chair until June 2025.” – according to the press release.
Javier Santamaría has chaired the EPC since June 2012 and has been actively involved with
the organisation since its founding in 2002.
“I am grateful for the years that I have had the privilege of leading the EPC and for the opportunity to contribute to its growth,” declared Javier Santamaría.
The forthcoming two years of Gijs Boudewijn’s mandate promise to be both challenging and rewarding.
“I am honoured to have been elected as chair of the EPC and would like to thank the members for their trust and support. We are living in a time of significant change, with multiple factors driving transformation in the European payments landscape. I am excited to take on this new challenge together with the members and the EPC team as we continue to adapt and innovate in this evolving environment.” – said Gijs Boudewijn.
The central role of the Chair is to lead the two main governance bodies of the EPC (its Board and General Assembly) and to represent it externally, in particular in dialogues with European institutions and other stakeholders.
The next six months will act as a transition period, facilitating a smooth handover between Javier Santamaría and Gijs Boudewijn, while ensuring continuity within the organisation.
