Samsung Pay adds ‘do not sell my data’ option for US users, starting this month

15 ianuarie 2020

A new privacy controls section now lets users of Samsung Pay in the US opt to prevent the company from selling their data to “Samsung Pay Partners”, XDA Developers reports.

“Some Samsung Pay functions won’t work when ‘do not sell’ is enabled,” users are informed when they turn on the option.

The option has been added to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which came into effect on 1 January 2020, Samsung Pay explains in the new privacy controls section of the app.

„In the latest Samsung Pay update in the United States, I noticed a pop-up on the main screen of Samsung Pay asking me to review my privacy settings. This was interesting because I’ve never actually seen any privacy settings in Samsung Pay, even though I’ve used it since the Galaxy S8 almost 3 years ago.”, says Max Weinbach in his article.

This pop-up leads to a new Privacy Controls setting in Samsung Pay. These settings allow you to control your data and flip the “Do Not Sell” switch to stop Samsung from selling this data to “Samsung Pay partners.”
